Bayer Leverkusen's Unbeaten Streak Secures Historic Bundesliga Season

Bayer Leverkusen has made history as the first Bundesliga team to complete a league season unbeaten, keeping their dream of an 'invincible treble' alive.

Under the guidance of Xabi Alonso, Leverkusen had already clinched their first league title. They added another milestone on Saturday with a 2-1 victory against Augsburg, ensuring an undefeated domestic campaign.

Leverkusen's unbeaten run now stretches to 51 games across all competitions, setting a new UEFA record previously held for 59 years. They are just two wins away from achieving a remarkable treble.

The team will face Atalanta in the Europa League final in Dublin on Wednesday, followed by the German Cup final against second-tier Kaiserslautern three days later.

In a celebratory atmosphere, Leverkusen dominated Augsburg, with Victor Boniface scoring the opening goal after 12 minutes, thanks to an assist from Amine Adli. Robert Andrich doubled the lead with a close-range effort. Although Mert Komur scored for Augsburg in the second half, Leverkusen secured a memorable end to their league campaign.

Leverkusen's unbeaten streak has surpassed the 49-game run by Portuguese giants Benfica between 1963 and 1965.

This season, Leverkusen won 28 out of their 34 Bundesliga games, scoring 89 goals and conceding only 24. Their last league defeat was at the end of last season, with a 3-0 loss to Bochum.

If they finish the season unbeaten in all competitions, Leverkusen will have gone 53 games without experiencing a loss.
